What do you enjoy most about working as a freelancer?
I love writing, and I love organising things (I’m an avid list-maker) but by far, the best thing about my job is the people.
Throughout my career, I’ve been incredibly fortunate to work with some amazing people who have taught me, inspired me and challenged me. When I’m working with clients, I not only enjoy getting to learn and understand their business, but I also enjoy getting to know them as people.
I’ve been lucky enough to work for some clients for many years now, and they are not only my peers and my colleagues, but I’m proud to call them my friends.
What is your proudest career moment for Gatekeeper Communications?
I'm most proud of launching my white paper writing services. It's an area that combines everything I love to do—writing, researching, storytelling, meeting customer needs, problem solving, the list goes on and on.
I'm proud of the fact that I've been able to develop a niche area of support. I go beyond just writing the initial report; it's about knowing how to use that report and how to be able to publicise it and get it read by my clients' customer base. I wrote one report, and someone got in touch to say how well written it was and that they could see how much hard work had gone into it.
That was pretty special feedback!
What are your freelance specialisms?
Marketing and PR is a unique profession because you can use your skill set to generate successful projects for companies in any sector. I really enjoy the variety of work that comes through; there’s always a buzz when you start to learn about different sectors and different businesses.
Thanks to my PR background, I am more than just a traditional "freelance copywriter" or "PR consultant".
I am an ideas partner, someone who can look holistically at the bigger picture, finding ways to amplify your messages. I've worked on projects where an initial idea for a blog article evolved into a full-blown white paper, complete with consumer research and a comprehensive media relations campaign.
My ethos is to always question, "what can we do beyond this?"

Throughout my career, I’ve worked alongside some of Suffolk’s biggest brand names, including Sanctuary Personnel, Citizens Advice Ipswich, Lucid Systems, and Ormiston Families. As someone who was born and raised in Ipswich, I understand our regional culture. It comes back to taking a flexible approach and understanding what matters to local businesses and their core demographics.
