Celebrating 7 years of business success

Gold and white balloons frame a pink banner that reads “It’s my 7 year anniversary” on a glittery gold background.

Seven years ago, I launched Gatekeeper Communications, and it feels genuinely celebratory to look back at how much has changed since then.

Back in April 2019, working from home wasn’t the norm, COVID didn’t exist, and generative AI wasn’t even a twinkle in our eyes!

I set up the business from my kitchen (and I’ve now expanded to a dedicated bedroom!), but other than that, almost everything has changed.

Looking back, things certainly seemed easier just a few years ago. The rules of how to communicate with customers were certainly clearer; there was less ‘misinformation’ to deal with, and the world didn’t feel quite so relentlessly mean all the time.

Celebrating seven years by finding confidence in what I do and who I work with

Over the years, I’ve been able to learn more than I ever thought possible. I’ve changed, and my business has changed too. I’m still offering the same services (website content, PR and media relations support and report writing), but I’m now much clearer about what I love to do and who I love working with.

I have had the privilege of working with some absolutely incredible clients, and knowing that many of them, who began working with me in 2019, are still working with me now is something I don’t take for granted. I love working with clients, helping them sound confident and credible, and finding ways to tell their stories that match what their customers want and need to know. I love being able to help them see how PR can genuinely change how people perceive them, and make it feel achievable rather than intimidating.

I even love how copywriting has changed for the better.

I’ll openly admit, I was worried when generative AI became mainstream. For a while, it felt like everyone was saying it was the end of the copywriter role. What I have found instead is that it has made me a better writer. It frees up my headspace to focus on what really matters in effective copy, such as nuance, empathy and understanding of what customers genuinely care about, including the things that keep them awake at night. It’s much easier to tailor your copywriting to specific audiences.

AI has even changed how we handle PR activities (although it’s always a worthy reminder to remember to use AI responsibly)

The biggest win for me over the past seven years has been figuring out what I’m really good at and what I love to do.

I am no longer trying to be everything to everyone.

Instead, I focus on practical PR and copywriting support that works for small and growing businesses and respects the reality of limited time, budget and headspace.

As a small business, I know how important it is to work with others to lift them up, give them helpful advice, useful pointers, and quick hints so they can continue to succeed.

That is why, to mark my seventh anniversary, I have pulled together a dedicated PR Resources Hub.

Why I’m celebrating my 7th anniversary by focusing on my PR Resources Hub

The hub brings together practical free PR resources designed specifically for small and local businesses in Ipswich who want to understand how to benefit from effective PR and better copy, not by outsourcing everything, but by learning how to do it well themselves.

Inside, you will find guidance that helps you:

  • Understand what PR can realistically achieve for a business of your size
  • Learn how to spot and shape stories worth sharing
  • Write clearer, more confident copy that supports credibility
  • Avoid common PR mistakes that waste time and energy
  • Make the most of PR and blog writing power hours so you can have some training and education

This is not about turning everyone into a PR professional.

It is about giving business owners and marketing leads the confidence to take control of their messaging, ask better questions and make smarter decisions about how they show up.

Human judgement matters, and how potential customers see you should be what excites you, not what terrifies you.

Seven years in, I am more convinced of that than ever.

This business anniversary feels celebratory because of what has been learned along the way. I feel sharper, clearer, and more enthusiastic than ever before.

To everyone who has trusted Gatekeeper Communications over the years, thank you. And to the local businesses who are learning, experimenting and finding their voice, this next chapter is for you.

You can explore the PR Resources Hub on my website and start building practical PR and copy skills that support your business now, and into whatever comes next.
